Some evenings leave you with beautiful photographs. Others leave you with something far more lasting.
Attending The Albies this year was both an extraordinary honour and a deeply humbling experience.
And while the evening was undeniably beautiful, it wasn’t the gowns, the glamour or the extraordinary setting of London’s Natural History Museum that stayed with me.
It was the people.
The courage. The resilience. The extraordinary sacrifices made by individuals who refuse to look away when confronted with injustice.
A Celebration of True Courage
Created by Amal and George Clooney through the Clooney Foundation for Justice, The Albies recognise individuals and organisations around the world who have dedicated their lives to defending justice and human rights, often at enormous personal risk.
Named in honour of South African anti-apartheid hero Justice Albie Sachs, the awards are a powerful reminder that courage is not always loud, celebrated or even visible.
Sometimes it means standing up when remaining silent would be safer. Sometimes it means fighting for someone who has no voice. And sometimes it means refusing to give up, even when the personal cost is unimaginable.
The Foundation’s work extends far beyond the evening itself. Its legal experts have helped secure freedom for journalists facing unjust imprisonment, empowered thousands of women to assert their rights, and challenged laws used to silence those defending fundamental freedoms.
That is something worth celebrating.
The People Who Made the Evening Extraordinary
This year’s honourees were nothing short of remarkable.
We celebrated Kyrgyz journalists Bolot Temirov and Makhabat Tazhibek Kyzy, whose commitment to journalism is a powerful reminder of the importance of a free press.
We recognised Vanessa Mwangala, whose work advocating for the rights of girls in Malawi is helping challenge barriers that should never have existed in the first place.
American photojournalist Lynsey Addario was also honoured for her extraordinary work documenting human experiences, often in some of the world’s most dangerous environments.
Recognition also went to Congolese human rights organisation Justice Plus and Brad Smith, Vice Chair and President of Microsoft, for his human rights advocacy.
To hear the stories behind these remarkable people was profoundly moving. Their courage is not theoretical. It is lived, often under circumstances most of us can barely begin to imagine. I felt incredibly privileged simply to be in the room.

Beyond the Beautiful Gowns
Of course, it was a spectacular evening, and I felt incredibly fortunate to wear a beautiful creation by Celia Kritharioti.
But there is something especially powerful about an occasion where fashion, influence and visibility come together in service of something so much greater. The spotlight was exactly where it belonged: on the people whose bravery, determination and humanity deserve the world’s attention.
As a designer, entrepreneur and mother, I’ve always believed in the importance of using whatever platform we have to support others, particularly women whose voices deserve to be heard.
The Albies brought that belief into sharper focus.
Sisterhood is not simply about celebrating one another when life is beautiful. It is also about standing alongside one another when life becomes unimaginably difficult.

What I Took Home
I arrived feeling honoured to attend. I left feeling humbled, inspired and reminded of the extraordinary strength of the human spirit.
To Amal and George Clooney, thank you for creating an evening that gives these remarkable individuals the recognition, protection and international attention they deserve.
And to every honouree, every advocate and every family continuing to fight for justice: thank you.
Thank you for reminding us that courage matters. That our voices matter. And that even when the challenges seem insurmountable, choosing to stand up for what is right is never insignificant.
The most beautiful thing I witnessed that evening wasn’t something anyone was wearing. It was courage.
With love and admiration,
~Tala xoxo
