In 2024, a collective of designers, of which I was part, set out to support the women and children of the Maasai Mara through a project dedicated to promoting sustainable and socially engaged brands.

At the heart of this effort is Olchoro Lemayian Primary School, a school that was built from scratch through the vision and commitment of Marta and Mariss Gras Maymi and Morris Kiema, owners of Enkopiro Camp, together with the Maasai Reto Association and the Ololasurai Conservancy. Marta and Morris’ belief in community empowerment and the transformative power of education led to the creation of this school, giving children in the surrounding area access to learning who might otherwise have limited opportunities.

In January 2026, I had the fortune of visiting Enkopiro Camp and meeting the children. In just three years, Olchoro Lemayian Primary School has grown from 58 children to 132, a powerful reflection of what focused support and care can achieve.

Sponsorship directly contributes to the children’s education and wellbeing, providing uniforms, daily meals, and school fees, while strengthening the wider Maasai family and community.

A contribution of as little as half a dollar a day helps offer children two nutritious meals, access to learning, and the safety of a stable school environment. From 2025, sponsorship also supports boarding education for those who need it most.

The Maasai people, with their deeply inspiring cultural presence, remain central to this initiative. Let us celebrate diverse cultures, voices, and causes together for a shared purpose: to uplift, empower, and create meaningful, lasting change.
